Raul Ortiz and his mother have filed a lawsuit against the Elyria, Ohio, police department and three officers following an incident where they entered his home without a warrant, tased him, and made an arrest. The situation arose when Ortiz’s ex-girlfriend contacted the police claiming she needed to retrieve her belongings from his residence, despite no longer living there. When the officers arrived, Ortiz denied them entry. Despite this, one of the officers encouraged the ex-girlfriend to kick in the door, leading to a forcible entry. Ortiz was tased during a struggle, despite informing the officers of his pacemaker. He was subsequently charged with multiple felonies, including assaulting an officer, while his mother was charged with obstruction for questioning the arrest. All charges were eventually dropped, but not before Ortiz spent nine days in jail.
