In 2022, San Francisco firefighter Robert Muhammad used a work computer to locate fellow firefighter Gabriel Shin’s home address. Muhammad had previously threatened Shin for not disclosing who was discussing Muhammad’s personal matters at work. Muhammad went to Shin’s house with a hydrant wrench and, upon finding him outside, began striking him repeatedly with the wrench, resulting in Shin sustaining broken arms and a concussion. The assault ceased only after a neighbor intervened with a handgun. Shin has filed a lawsuit against the department, but Muhammad has been allowed to continue working. Shin mentioned that his supervisors instructed him to drop the charges and not cooperate with the criminal investigation.
