The individual who purchased the home where Alex Murdaugh committed the murders of his wife and son has made a surprising claim that he has discovered evidence that could prove Murdaugh’s innocence.
Alexander Wallace Blair bought the Moselle Estate House in Islandton, SC, along with its 21-acre property for $1 million at an auction in February 2024. He has started renovating the home since then.
In 2021, Murdaugh was sentenced to two life terms without parole for the murders of his wife, Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22. Crime scene experts determined that he ambushed them at the estate’s dog kennels, a structure that was believed to not have been included in the property when it was purchased at auction.
Blair revealed to Realtor.com that the kennel was included in the purchase, and he has kept the door and window with bullet holes from the June 2021 shooting, even after tearing down the structure.
After examining the evidence, Blair suggested that Murdaugh may not have been the one who fired the fatal shots, citing Murdaugh’s size as a factor.
Blair mentioned that while Murdaugh may not be a saint, he believes that Murdaugh did not commit the murders.
Blair, who hails from Rock Hill, over 150 miles away from Moselle, stated that some of his neighbors in the area agree with him that Murdaugh may not be the killer.
He also mentioned that he has a set of keys and a keychain that belonged to Maggie, which he is holding onto in case their surviving son, Richard “Buster” Murdaugh, wants them back.
The estate was originally owned by the Murdaugh family and spanned 1,700 acres. It was purchased by James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley for $3.9 million in March 2023. However, they later divided the land and put the home and 21 acres back on the market for $1.95 million, which Blair acquired for $1 million.
Blair, a father of two, intends to use the estate as his secondary residence and aims to change the negative perception surrounding it.
He has made several improvements to the property, including installing a pond, putting up horse fences, tearing down the kennels, and demolishing Murdaugh’s private airplane hangar.
Blair is currently renovating the house extensively and expects the work to be completed by mid-November.
Despite his conviction, Murdaugh denies killing his wife and son and is serving multiple life sentences for the murders and financial crimes.
