A man in California has been sentenced to seven years in prison for abusing foster children under his care, some of whom had previously suffered abuse at the hands of their parents. Marcelino Olguin, 65, was taken into custody after pleading guilty to various charges, including lewd acts on a child, false imprisonment, and injuring a child. His wife, Rosa, and adult daughter, Lennys, also pleaded guilty to child cruelty and received four years of formal probation.
Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin stated, “Today’s sentencing marks a significant step in delivering justice to the victims who endured unimaginable abuse. These children were placed in a position of vulnerability after surviving intense trauma, only to be further exploited.” The Olguins were responsible for caring for the children after they were rescued from abusive conditions in their parents’ home.
The Turpin parents, who had subjected their 13 children to torture and abuse, were sentenced to life in prison. Some of the Turpin children were placed with the Olguins, where they reportedly faced further mistreatment, including physical abuse and forced trauma recounts.
Victim advocates read a statement from one of the Turpin children in court, expressing a desire for a loving family and recovery from trauma. Despite the hardships, the victim forgave the Olguin family. The social service system’s failure to protect the Turpin children was highlighted in a report.
Attorneys representing the Turpin children filed a civil lawsuit against Riverside County, alleging abuse by the Olguins. The suit detailed instances of physical and emotional abuse, including sexual abuse by Marcelino Olguin. While some allegations were deemed exaggerated, the resolution was reached without custody for the Olguins.
