ANCHORAGE, Alaska—The U.S. Coast Guard has halted its search for three individuals who went missing after their boat overturned in a bay in the Gulf of Alaska.
The distress call came in on Wednesday morning from a 21-foot Hewescraft boat near Aialik Bay, approximately 35 miles southwest of Seward.
After alerting nearby vessels, a Coast Guard air crew located the capsized boat.
According to the Coast Guard, “A nearby good Samaritan recovered one unresponsive individual from the water, who was later pronounced dead by local medics.”
The search covered an area of approximately 95 square miles before the search for the missing trio was suspended.
Situated about 125 miles south of Anchorage, Seward has a population of just over 5,000 people.
