Children today lack respect for authority, including their parents, and are not properly educated on historical and world news facts. This lack of respect is evident in the growing number of protests, tent encampments, and disruptive behavior on college campuses across the country. The protests often center around pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel, and anti-Semitic messages, leading to chaos and violence.
The root of this behavior can be traced back to K-12 education, where children are not taught respect for authority or given an accurate account of historical and world news facts. Critical race theory has infiltrated many classrooms, promoting a divisive worldview that categorizes individuals based on their skin color. This divisive ideology has led to discrimination and retaliation towards certain groups.
Teachers unions have played a role in promoting these ideologies, with some enlisting controversial figures like Ibram X. Kendi to train educators. These teachings have become the norm in many schools, influencing everything from student discipline to curriculum choices.
The negative effects of these ideologies are evident in the high rates of violence and disrespect towards teachers and staff in schools. Despite these challenges, teachers unions continue to advocate for policies that further erode respect for authority and undermine the safety and well-being of students and educators.
Need for Good Leadership
With the agenda in place, students are not being taught respect for law enforcement, leaving teachers and students vulnerable to on-campus incidents. On May 1, Mayor Eric Adams addressed the mass arrests at Columbia University and The City College of New York, emphasizing the need to protect children from danger and prevent radicalization among young people in the city.
In contrast to most school districts governed by school boards, the responsibility of the largest public school district in the country lies with the New York City mayor. Despite this authority, Mayor Adams has not taken significant action to counter the radicalization of K-12 schoolchildren.
Concluding Thoughts
It is crucial to restore sound academic instruction, promote respect for all students, and consistently enforce behavioral rules in K-12 schools. This is essential for creating a conducive environment for high-quality academic learning and fostering robust debates with civility and decorum on college campuses.
All students, whether in K-12 or higher education, must be held accountable for following established rules and codes of conduct. Institutional leaders who fail to uphold these standards should be replaced.
