A man previously convicted of rape is facing charges of murder and attempted sexual assault in the death of a visiting nurse at a Connecticut halfway house for sex offenders. The incident, which occurred in October, has sparked discussions about the safety of home health care workers.
The accused, Michael Reese, 39, was charged with the new offenses while appearing in court for a separate larceny and drug paraphernalia case. He was apprehended leaving the halfway house on the same day the nurse, Joyce Grayson, was found dead in the basement. Police discovered some of Grayson’s belongings in Reese’s possession.
Grayson, a 63-year-old mother and nurse with 36 years of experience, was at the halfway house to administer medication to Reese. Concern arose when she missed subsequent appointments, prompting a police response.
Reese faces charges of murder, felony murder, and attempted first-degree sexual assault. Details of the allegations were not immediately disclosed.
