Cooler Temperatures and Potential Rainfall for Halloween Weekend
This weekend may bring the season’s first significant rains to portions of the southern California coast.
“There is potential for the first decent rainfall in portions of the coast and mountains and valley,” said Dr. Robbie Munroe, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Los Angeles office.
Munroe mentioned that the forecast for the weekend is uncertain, with possibilities of light showers, higher elevation snow showers, or gusty northwest to north winds.
Currently, meteorologists have low confidence in their models for the weekend but expect more clarity in the coming days.
The weekend could potentially bring somewhat widespread rainfall, although half of the NWS’s models suggest the storm might move further east, resulting in more of a wind event than precipitation.
Weather Update for Halloween Week
Monday saw gusty winds in southern California, prompting wind advisories in various areas.
There was a chance of early morning drizzle in the foothills and mountains, which materialized in some parts of the state.
Expect a weak offshore flow on Wednesday, with a cold front bringing very cold air from Tuesday to Thursday.
Gusty northwest to north winds are expected to prevail, easing off by Tuesday morning.
Thursday should be dry, with onshore flow allowing the marine layer to develop along the coasts and coastal valleys, maintaining cool temperatures.
Mariners are advised to stay in safe harbor as seas are expected to be hazardous through Tuesday.
A moderate swell and large wind waves may lead to elevated surf on west and northwest facing beaches.
Winter Outlook
The fall season has been relatively dry so far, with the wet season anticipated to begin in December.
Early winter might see a weak La Niña, resulting in above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation for southern California.
