A Queens Driver Assaults Traffic Cop and Steals Summons Machine
A driver in Queens lashed out after receiving a ticket, assaulting a traffic cop and stealing his summons machine in a brazen daytime altercation, according to authorities.
The 56-year-old NYPD traffic enforcement agent was issuing a ticket on 63rd Drive near Queens Boulevard at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday when 29-year-old Mark Garrido approached him regarding the ticket on his white SUV.
Garrido got into a heated argument with the agent, eventually striking his hand and grabbing the summons machine in a fit of anger, police reported.
Garrido, captured in surveillance footage wearing a black baseball cap, sweatshirt, and sweatpants, then fled the scene in his SUV, officials stated.
The agent did not sustain any injuries, as per the police.
Garrido, who resides approximately four miles away in Ozone Park, was apprehended late Friday morning, authorities disclosed.
He faces charges of third-degree robbery and second-degree assault, according to law enforcement.
His arraignment in Queens Criminal Court is pending.
