A crew of rock-throwing teens attack and rob 73-year-old man in Manhattan
According to police reports, a group of as many as six teenagers attacked Rafael Diaz, a 73-year-old New Yorker, while he was walking home near East 12th Street and Avenue A. The incident occurred around 8:50 a.m. on Monday morning.
Diaz recounted that a teenage girl approached him asking for a dollar, and when he agreed to give it to her, the group of teens decided to attack him, throwing rocks and sticks at him as he walked.
Despite seeking refuge in a nearby restaurant and asking for help, Diaz was followed by the group who eventually assaulted him, stole his wallet, and took $200 along with his debit and benefits cards. He was later taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital for treatment.
Although shaken by the incident, Diaz remains determined not to let it stop him from walking around his beloved city. He expressed frustration and anger at the attackers but emphasized the importance of moving on and not letting fear dictate his actions.
Despite the ordeal, no arrests have been made in connection with the attack as of now.
