An individual working as a cabin attendant on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for planting hidden cameras in guests’ rooms, including recording young children. Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a 34-year-old Philippine national, pleaded guilty to producing child sexual abuse material, which included children as young as 2 years old, according to the Justice Department.
Mirasol was apprehended at sea after a camera was discovered by a girl under the sink counter one day into the cruise. He was arrested upon the ship’s return to Port Everglades and was subsequently fired from his job.
During investigations, Mirasol admitted to spying on young girls since December 2023 and confessed to placing hidden cameras in multiple rooms, as stated in court documents. He would hide under guests’ beds to secretly record them exiting the shower and had numerous videos of children in various stages of undress, focusing on their genitals.
Authorities discovered that the children in the videos ranged from 2 to 17 years old, with one video specifically showing a 10-year-old girl undressing and showering with her genitals in clear focus. Mirasol also had voyeurism-related searches on his phone, including “teen on bed.”
When questioned about how he chose which rooms to target, Mirasol stated that he would select rooms based on his preferences, favoring teenage girls over the age of 16. Royal Caribbean promptly reported the incident to law enforcement and terminated Mirasol’s employment upon learning of the allegations.
