Authorities are reminding the public about the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, especially during the warmer summer months. It is illegal in the state of California to leave young children alone in a car.
“It only takes minutes for the temperatures inside your car to heat up like an oven,” warned the sheriff’s department in a statement released on June 19.
It is important to remember Kaitlyn’s Law, which was enacted after a tragic incident in 2000 where a six-month-old baby died in Riverside County due to being left in a hot car for over two hours by her babysitter. The law prohibits leaving a child under the age of 6 unattended in a vehicle.
