The hunting season in Central California is set to begin in September, with a limited number of permits available for hunters to bag a deer. The Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that sections of the Los Baños and North Grasslands wildlife areas will be open for deer hunting for the first time since 1945. The California Fish and Game Commission approved the addition of deer as a harvestable species in these areas, with 11 permits to be granted for this year’s season.
Hunters interested in applying for permits to hunt deer in these wildlife areas, located about 70 miles north of Fresno, must have a valid hunting license and a deer tag for a specific zone. The drawing for permits will take place on August 6, with selected applicants notified by mail within five working days.
In addition to following all hunting regulations, hunters must also adhere to rules regarding parking and driving in the area. Each hunter is allowed to bring one non-hunting guest, and the wildlife areas will be closed to all other visitors throughout the week. Residents aged 16 and over can obtain a hunting license for $62, with an additional $41 for a deer tag.
