Former Governor David Paterson expressed frustration with New York’s lenient laws regarding juvenile offenders after he and his stepson were recently attacked by a group of youths on a city street.
Speaking on 770 WABC radio, Paterson criticized the criminal justice system for being too lenient on young offenders who engage in violent behavior.
Paterson and his stepson were assaulted by a group of individuals while walking their dog in the Upper East Side, leading to a physical altercation.
The incident escalated after Paterson’s stepson confronted a group of youngsters, resulting in a violent confrontation involving city Housing Authority workers.
Surveillance footage of the incident showed the severity of the attack, with Paterson indicating that he may have blacked out during the assault.
Following the attack, two Housing Authority workers were arrested and charged with assault, along with three young individuals involved in the altercation.
Paterson called for strict legal action against the perpetrators, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice in the case.
The incident, captured in a video, showed the assailants attacking Paterson’s stepson as he lay on the ground, prompting Paterson to defend himself against one of the attackers.
Despite the ordeal, Paterson remained steadfast in his stance against violence and called for the responsible individuals to face the consequences of their actions.
