Years ago, I observed the development of software that eventually led to Israel’s Iron Dome technology. As coordinates were inputted into a computer, a map of Israel displayed a simulated conflict scenario with missiles raining down, creating a disturbing image on the screen.
During his second term, Donald Trump signed an executive order to create a “Golden Dome for America,” inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome. Despite initial plans to name it the “Iron Dome for America,” trademark concerns and a desire to differentiate it from Israel’s system led to the name change.
Unlike Israel’s Iron Dome, which protects a smaller territory, the Golden Dome would need to defend a vast landmass of 3.8 million square miles, presenting both enthusiasm and skepticism.
Concerns arise regarding America’s military capabilities, especially in light of a recent report highlighting deficiencies in weapons supply for potential conflicts with China.
Efforts are underway to streamline the development of the Golden Dome while aligning with the priorities set by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
It is evident that establishing a robust air defense system is long overdue, especially considering the success of Israel’s Iron Dome, which has been operational for over a decade.
