The Australian government is introducing a new scorecard system for disability employment services to enhance employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The Disability Employment Services (DES) Performance Framework and Scorecards will set standards for service providers nationwide. With 5.5 million Australians living with disabilities, including 2.7 million of working age, the framework will monitor and improve DES providers’ performance through key measures. Scorecards will report provider performance quarterly, assigning scores for each domain and measure. This initiative aims to support DES participants, families, and carers in making informed decisions about employment services. Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth emphasized the framework’s goal of achieving meaningful employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. The transparent system will promote accountability, efficiency, and quality in DES providers, enhancing services for jobseekers. The new framework focuses on outcomes, promoting sustainable employment and education opportunities. The nine guiding principles of the framework emphasize person-centered, transparent, inclusive, and responsive services. DES providers must prioritize sustained outcomes, continuous improvement, accountability, flexibility, and collaboration. The government’s efforts to address past challenges in the DES program include ongoing reviews and improvements to ensure quality services for individuals with disabilities.
