Anthony Fauci is set to testify before the House Select Subcommittee on the coronavirus pandemic on Monday at Capitol Hill.
A new report from a non-profit government watchdog reveals a significant increase in secret royalty payments from drug companies to employees of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) following the Coronavirus Pandemic in 2021.
According to OpenTheBooks.com, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies paid a total of $710,381,160 in third-party royalties to NIH, its leadership, and scientists in 2022 and 2023. The report, which will be made public on Monday as Anthony Fauci testifies before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, was obtained by The Epoch Times.
The report states that the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), previously led by Dr. Anthony Fauci, received the majority of these payments, totaling $690,218,610 out of the $710 million.
One of the recipients of these royalties was NIAID’s John Mascola, who played a key role in managing Operation Warp Speed, the government’s initiative to develop a COVID-19 vaccine.
Since January 2020, over 1.2 million Americans have died from the virus.

Dr. Mascola, who has been overseeing NIAID’s Vaccine Research Center since 2013, received royalty payments from Moderna starting in 2018. Moderna received over $10 billion from the government between 2020 and 2022 for its vaccine development efforts. Prior to that, from 2013 to 2017, Moderna received $60 million from the government for work on mRNA technology, the foundation of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The data used in the report was obtained from NIH after OpentheBooks.com filed a FOIA request with the agency. Despite this, the government has refused to disclose the names of NIH employees associated with 4,851 royalty payments between 2009 and 2021.
Furthermore, the names of nearly 1,000 NIH employees who received royalty payments in 2022 and 2023 are also being withheld, citing the FOIA’s exemption to protect trade secrets of private firms.
The report questions why the names of NIH scientists are being kept confidential, raising concerns about conflicts of interest within the royalty structure at NIH.
During his testimony, Dr. Fauci is expected to face questions regarding these secret royalty payments and the agency’s reluctance to comply with FOIA requirements for transparency.
As of late Sunday, a spokesperson for NIH could not be reached for comment.
