Elon Musk Announces SpaceX Headquarters Move to Starbase, Texas
Elon Musk took to social media platform X on Thursday to announce that the official headquarters of SpaceX will now be located in the city of Starbase, Texas.
Back in July, Musk revealed plans to relocate the headquarters of both social media platform X and rocket company SpaceX from California to Texas. This decision was influenced by a new gender identity law in California, which Musk described as the “last straw.”
While Musk initially stated that SpaceX’s main office would be situated in an existing facility in Boca Chica, Texas, and X would move to Austin, the specifics regarding the transfer of jobs and facilities from California to Texas remained unclear.
Earlier this year, Musk also shifted SpaceX’s incorporation from Delaware to Texas. This move followed a shareholder vote led by Musk to change Tesla’s state of incorporation to Texas, where the company’s headquarters are located, after a Delaware judge invalidated his $56-billion pay package.
In a similar fashion, Musk relocated Tesla’s headquarters from California to Texas in 2021, with California still serving as the company’s engineering hub.
Furthermore, Musk personally changed his residency from California to Texas in 2021, taking advantage of Texas’ lack of state income tax for individuals.
