A former top aide to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, aged 63, has been indicted on bribery charges related to her son and two real estate investors, involving alleged bribes totaling $100,000.
It is alleged that Vaid and Dwivedi provided Glen Martin with two $50,000 checks, which Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated were used to illegally influence city decisions in exchange for over $100,000 in cash and other benefits.
The $100,000 was reportedly transferred to a company owned by Glen Martin, used for his DJ business, Suave Productions. He then used the money to purchase a Porsche car for $113,000.
Vaid and Dwivedi, who own properties in Manhattan including a rooftop bar called the “Glass Ceiling” and the Hotel on Rivington, had permits pending with the Department of Buildings. The alleged purpose of the bribes was to leverage Ingrid Lewis-Martin’s position as chief adviser to expedite the process and push through rejected construction approvals.
To avoid detection, Lewis-Martin allegedly urged the others to join Signal, an encrypted messaging app.
Lewis-Martin maintains her innocence and denies engaging in any illegal activities.
The mayor commended Lewis-Martin for her service record.
“We’ve always anticipated this day, and while we were prepared, it’s still difficult to accept that Ingrid won’t be by our side every day. I, along with all New Yorkers, owe her a debt of gratitude for her dedicated service to our city,” he remarked.
