A former Miss New York USA has gained attention online after sharing a warning about a common scam she fell victim to in New York City.
Beauty queen turned real estate agent Briana Siaca recounted in a video how she was deceived by two teenagers in Madison Square Park who used a popular “Zelle scam” to swindle $2,000 from her.
Siaca, a native of Brentwood, Long Island, explained that the boys claimed to be fundraising for their basketball team from South Bronx and accepted payments through Venmo and Zelle.
Despite initially agreeing to help, Siaca realized the scam when she saw that the boys had sent themselves $2,000 from her account.
Law enforcement authorities have long warned New Yorkers about such scams, where individuals request donations using digital payment platforms for fake causes.
Although her bank was unable to assist, Siaca praised the NYPD for their support in handling the situation.
Many online commentators pointed out Siaca’s vulnerability, with some questioning her familiarity with New York City and advising against giving out personal information or devices to strangers.
Siaca acknowledged the lesson learned from the experience and emphasized the importance of staying cautious in such situations.
The Post has contacted Siaca for further comments on the incident.
