Former Texas Rangers pitcher Matt Bush, 38, was arrested for allegedly fleeing from Texas police and attempting to run from the scene of a multi-vehicle crash. He was driving erratically in his 2023 Lincoln Aviator when an Arlington police officer tried to pull him over.
Despite evading the police, Bush was later involved in a multi-vehicle accident, running a red light and crashing into multiple vehicles. He then tried to flee on foot but was apprehended by bystanders.
Both Bush and another driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Bush, suspected of being intoxicated, declined a field sobriety test and refused to cooperate with investigators.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, accident involving injury, and evading. After being medically cleared, Bush was booked into the Arlington City Jail with a bond set at $35,000.
Bush, originally a shortstop, was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick by the San Diego Padres in 2004. He transitioned to a relief pitcher during his major league career, playing for the Rangers and briefly for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Despite his troubles off the field, including alcohol-related incidents and a prison sentence, Bush had a successful career in baseball before being released by the Rangers at the end of the 2023 season.
