A former senior policy adviser under President Barack Obama’s administration faces child sex offense charges in the UK.
Rahamim “Rami” Shy, a 46-year-old New Jersey native, appeared in Luton Crown Court after being arrested on charges such as arranging the commission of a child sex offense and possessing indecent images of children, as reported by the Daily Mail.
During the court hearing, Shy, a former Treasury Department staffer, dressed in a grey prison tracksuit and was not required to enter a plea. He remains in custody until his next court appearance in June.
The specific details of the alleged offenses are not clear at this time.
Shy worked in the US Treasury Department from 2008 to 2014 and provided advice to the Obama White House on countering terrorism financing from groups like Al Qaeda and the Taliban.
He had testified before a congressional hearing in 2009 regarding security issues in Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to C-SPAN.
Most recently, Shy worked as an executive at Citi bank, but a representative from the bank confirmed that he is no longer employed there.
Shy’s LinkedIn and social media profiles have been removed.
It is unclear if Shy was residing in the UK at the time of his arrest, and attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.
