The family of a Queens grandfather killed by a stray bullet on Monday remembered him as a generous, hardworking man and expressed their anger towards city gun violence for “destroying families.” Gabriella Alcindor, the daughter of William Alcindor, who was fatally shot while driving through a busy intersection in St. Albans, shared how her father had always encouraged her to achieve great things, but now he won’t be there to witness her success.
William Alcindor, a Haitian immigrant and professional driver, tragically lost his life when a bullet struck him in the head as he was driving. The incident also resulted in a 23-year-old woman being hit by Alcindor’s vehicle. Alcindor’s family described him as a kind, hardworking man who was always there for his family and community.
Despite the NYPD having a suspect in custody, the family emphasized the need for the shooter to face the full consequences of their actions. They expressed the pain of losing William Alcindor and acknowledged that even if justice is served, it will not bring their beloved family member back. Do you understand what I’m trying to convey? He played such a crucial role in our family – his absence has created a void.”
