In Commerce City, a suburb of Denver, four men were fatally shot over the weekend, with a woman also hospitalized due to gunshot wounds. Additionally, a person of interest in one of the cases was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot, as reported by the police on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in the city of Aurora, located in the Denver area, one person was fatally shot and three others were injured in two separate altercations on Sunday.
Within Denver itself, a person was killed and six others were injured in a series of shootings and stabbings over the weekend, according to the police.
Joanna Small, spokesperson for the Commerce City Police Department, described the weekend as “an incredibly violent” one for the community, which has a population of around 70,000 people and is situated northeast of Denver near the airport. She noted that the incidents were unrelated, making the situation even more perplexing.
The motives behind the shootings have not been disclosed to the public.
The first incident took place in a 7-Eleven parking lot in Commerce City on Friday night, where a man and a woman were shot. The man succumbed to his injuries, while the woman remained in critical condition in the hospital. Subsequently, a man linked to the shooting was found dead by suicide after fleeing from officers.
On Saturday evening, another fatal shooting occurred in a public park with a pool in Commerce City, resulting in a suspect being taken into custody. Later that night, officers responded to gunshots fired during a gunfight, leading to a stolen vehicle crashing and a male passenger with a gunshot wound found dead inside.
During the same incident, another male was discovered shot dead in a residential yard. Small mentioned that the victims in this case were believed to be juveniles.
Small emphasized that there was no apparent connection between the various shootings in Commerce City. She refrained from providing additional details due to ongoing investigations.
In Aurora, a fatal shooting occurred in a nightclub parking lot around 2 a.m., with details about the deceased individual pending release. Another victim, a 34-year-old man, sustained multiple gunshot wounds but managed to reach the hospital independently and was expected to survive. No arrests had been made in this case.
Simultaneously, a shooting took place at an Aurora housing complex, resulting in one man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and another man stabbed but expected to recover, according to the police.
