Research Reveals the Health Benefits of Odd-Chain Saturated Fatty Acid
A recent study has highlighted the numerous health advantages of an odd-chain saturated fatty acid that has been lacking in our diets for many years.
The U.S. Navy enlisted Venn-Watson, a veterinary epidemiologist and public health scientist, to assist in enhancing the health of their aging dolphins.
Through her research, she discovered that dolphins undergo a similar aging process to humans and are susceptible to age-related conditions such as high cholesterol, chronic inflammation, and arthritis. However, not all dolphins in the Navy exhibited these conditions, prompting Venn-Watson and a team of scientists to investigate further.
Utilizing metabolomics, they identified a specific nutrient present in both humans and dolphins that proved to be a key factor in healthy aging in dolphins—pentadecanoic acid, also known as C15:0.
This odd-chain saturated fatty acid was found to enhance the health and longevity of dolphins, leading Venn-Watson to delve deeper into C15:0 research.
Understanding Pentadecanoic Acid
Pentadecanoic acid is a 15-carbon long odd-chain saturated fatty acid primarily found in whole-fat dairy, certain fish, grass-fed meat, and plants. It is a component of the milk received by all mammal infants, including humans.
