During a hearing in a Los Angeles federal courtroom, Hunter Biden’s attorney, Mark Geragos, criticized federal prosecutors for attempting to tarnish Hunter’s image by introducing evidence of his extravagant spending on strippers and pornography at his upcoming tax trial in Los Angeles. Geragos argued that the prosecution’s efforts to bring up Hunter’s lavish lifestyle were merely a form of character assassination and should not be allowed.
The special counsel, David Weiss, contended that details of Hunter’s spending habits were crucial for the jurors to understand since Hunter allegedly tried to write off these expenses as business deductions. Wise highlighted Hunter’s payments to porn sites and parties with strippers, emphasizing that while such activities are legal, claiming them as business expenses is not permissible.
At the hearing, Geragos also faced setbacks as the judge ruled against allowing an expert witness on addiction to testify for the defense and disallowed testimony linking Hunter’s drug and alcohol addiction to past family tragedies. Furthermore, the judge restricted the introduction of evidence related to Hunter’s foreign business dealings and prevented implications of Hunter violating foreign agent lobbying laws or the Obama administration acting improperly.
Jury selection for Hunter’s tax trial is set to commence on September 5. Hunter has pleaded not guilty to all nine counts, including three felonies. Despite a previous conviction for lying about his drug use while purchasing a gun, he is expected to receive a lighter sentence due to his lack of a criminal record.
