A series of fiber optic network sabotage incidents have occurred across France, following arson attacks that disrupted high-speed train services during the Olympics opening ceremony, reports say.
Police reported that cables belonging to several telecom operators were intentionally cut in six areas of France on Monday, affecting fixed-line services mainly, with no impact on mobile devices in Paris.
According to Le Parisien, installations of operators SFR and Bouygues were vandalized in southern France, the Meuse region near Luxembourg, and the Oise area near Paris.
No group has claimed responsibility for the recent infrastructure attack, which comes after coordinated acts disrupted high-speed train services connecting Paris to Lille, Bordeaux, and Strasbourg.
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal described the sabotage as âprepared and coordinated,â with an objective of blocking the high-speed train network ahead of the Olympics opening ceremony.
Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanin stated that individuals linked to far-left French anarchists are suspected to be behind the train sabotage, calling it a typical action of the ultra-left.
Despite the identification of suspects, the government is proceeding with caution to determine if they were manipulated or acted independently.
All targeted train lines were reported to be operational as of Monday morning.
