Police in Florida arrested a man for shooting a Walmart drone with a 9mm handgun as it flew over his house, causing thousands of dollars in damage. The suspect, 72-year-old Dennis Winn from Clermont, Florida, admitted to taking a shot at the drone operated by a two-man crew over his Lake County home, as reported by the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
The drone was part of a local campaign by Walmart featuring mock deliveries to attract business and interest in the area, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
After hearing a gunshot while piloting the drone, the crew discovered a bullet hole in the craft back at the store, causing $2,500 worth of damage, as reported by Fox.
Deputies responded to the incident, and Winn confessed to being the gunman, stating that he thought the drone was watching him and tried to shoo it away without success, as per USA Today.
Bodycam footage captured Winn saying, “I fired one round at it. They say I hit it, so I must be a good shot, or else it’s not that far away. I’m going to wind up having to find a real good defense lawyer.”
Winn was arrested and charged with shooting at an aircraft, criminal mischief damage over $1,000, and firing a gun in public.
