A Florida woman was almost kidnapped at knifepoint in the parking lot of an Orlando Walmart. Veronica Jones had just finished shopping when a man grabbed her and threatened to harm her if she didn’t give him her purse. The suspect, later identified as Juan Perez, put a knife to her throat and tried to push her into the trunk of her car.
Jones fought back to protect her valuables, but the situation escalated when Perez threatened to harm her. A bystander heard her cries for help and intervened, scaring off the suspect. Perez was later arrested after a GPS monitor placed him at the scene of the crime.
Despite losing her belongings, Jones was grateful for the intervention of the bystander. Perez, who was on federal probation for a previous kidnapping charge, faces multiple charges including attempted kidnapping and armed robbery. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court soon.
It was also revealed that Perez is a registered sex offender in Florida for a previous offense. The brave actions of the bystander and the quick response of law enforcement prevented a potentially tragic outcome for Veronica Jones.
