Former public safety minister Marco Mendicino expresses his concern about the public discourse surrounding allegations of parliamentarians being complicit in foreign interference, calling it a “kangaroo court.”
During a federal inquiry into foreign meddling, Mendicino emphasized the importance of following due process and upholding the law before jumping to conclusions about the behavior of elected officials.
The National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians previously stated that some politicians were knowingly or unknowingly involved in foreign states’ attempts to influence Canadian politics.
This statement from NSICOP, a group of MPs and senators dedicated to intelligence oversight, raised alarms about the possibility of individuals involved in interference still being active in the political arena.
