The heartbroken girlfriend of a Wyoming teenager who was fatally stabbed while protecting her from attackers broke down in tears at a memorial service.
Bobby Maher, 14, lost his life when he confronted two masked 15-year-old boys who were allegedly harassing his middle school sweetheart at the Eastridge Mall in Casper.
During a vigil, the grieving girlfriend tearfully described Maher as “the bravest boy” and the “best boyfriend,” expressing their plans for the future together.
According to The Daily Mail, she said, “Me and Bobby, we had so many plans for the future.”
Maher rushed to the mall after receiving a call from his girlfriend about the alleged harassment by the two boys, Dominique Harris and Jarreth Plunkett, who were following her and a friend.
Tragically, Maher was attacked and killed by the two assailants when he asked them to leave the girls alone.
At the vigil, his girlfriend apologized to those who witnessed the incident and expressed her love for Maher’s family, acknowledging how much he cared for them.
She added, “I never thought I’d be saying all this so early.”
Prior to the fatal attack, Maher had been in a feud with Harris and Plunkett, stemming from an incident during spring break where Maher had reportedly called them “freaks” after they went to a port-a-potty together at a park.
Harris revealed to detectives that Plunkett sought to collect a “blood debt” from Maher’s friend after the port-a-potty incident, leading to the tragic chain of events.
Both Harris and Plunkett stole kitchen knives from a Target in the mall with the intent to confront Maher, which ultimately resulted in the fatal stabbing.
Despite Maher’s efforts to avoid a confrontation and protect his girlfriend, the security camera captured the brutal attack where he was beaten and stabbed.
The assailants fled the scene, discarding their masks and the bloodied knife in the parking lot.
Plunkett and Harris were charged as adults with conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault, battery, and theft, with Plunkett facing an additional charge of first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of Maher.
