Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) reported that one of his staffers was attacked at gunpoint over the weekend in a Washington neighborhood. The incident involved a group of men and occurred while the congressman was with friends.
In a social media post on June 9, Mr. Collins stated, “Early this morning, three men attempted to rob one of my staffers and a friend at gunpoint in Navy Yard.” The congressman mentioned that one of the attackers stole a watch, while another received a punch to the face.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed in a statement on June 10 that the incident took place around 3:17 a.m. It involved two armed attackers and four victims who were walking in the area when the suspects emerged from a car and pointed firearms at them. The suspects then took property from the victims before fleeing the scene.
All four victims were unharmed, and the MPD did not disclose their identities. Surveillance images of a black car allegedly used in the attack were shared on social media by the police department, who also urged anyone with information to come forward.
The MPD offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the violent crime.
