A tragic incident unfolded at a McDonald’s in Katy, Texas, where a grandfather lost his life in the crossfire of a shootout while attempting to purchase Happy Meals for his two grandchildren.
Jorge Arbaiza, 61, was fatally shot five times inside the fast-food establishment when two groups of young individuals engaged in gunfire, as reported by KHOU 11.
His wife of nearly 40 years, Teresa Arbaiza, was in the car with their grandchildren outside and became alarmed when she saw customers fleeing the restaurant, prompting her to check on her husband.
In his final moments, Jorge told his wife, “I’m dying, I’m going to die.”
Teresa Arbaiza recalled seeing a man with a gun in her rearview mirror just before the tragic incident occurred.
Unable to leave the frightened children alone, Teresa remained in the car while her husband was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Another individual, a 25-year-old man believed to be connected to the altercation, also sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to survive.
Remembered as a devoted husband and grandfather, Jorge Arbaiza had a special bond with his grandchildren, according to his wife.
Law enforcement authorities conducted a search for evidence at the scene with the help of a K-9 team, but no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
The individuals involved in the altercation fled the scene in different vehicles, with one group driving a maroon SUV and the other in a white sedan, according to police.
While some individuals linked to the fight have been located, the shooters remain at large, leaving family members demanding justice for their loss.
“All I want is justice,” expressed Zoila Garcia, Jorge’s sister-in-law. “So they can grab them and they can pay for what they did. It’s so unjust.”
