The accused shooter who allegedly shot his former boss in broad daylight on the Upper West Side was ordered to remain in custody at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday night.
Eduardo Diaz, 42, from Queens, faces charges of attempted murder, assault, and weapon possession following the shooting that injured Boris Shapiro, 47, at West 69th Street and Columbus Avenue, according to prosecutors.
The shooter, who had been fired from a computer repair job months earlier, reportedly confronted his former boss near 68th Street and Columbus Avenue before shooting him multiple times at close range around 9:20 a.m., prosecutors said.
Diaz allegedly continued firing at the victim while he was on the ground, with prosecutors noting that he had been sending threatening messages to his ex-boss since his termination.
Both men had previously worked together at Lincoln Business Machines Incorporated, sources revealed.
Police apprehended Diaz on Friday morning after he had eluded capture for nearly 24 hours by hiding in the subway tunnel near 72nd Street, causing disruptions to commuters.
Shapiro was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Diaz was treated at a local hospital and released before his court appearance, according to sources.
Diaz faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors confirmed.
He was remanded after his arraignment and is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 14, as per prosecutors.
