Following Israel’s 9/11 on Oct. 7, 2023, individuals sympathetic to Hamas in California and other states, as well as globally, have disrupted daily life by using the heckler’s veto, targeting key infrastructure, and engaging in persistent bullying. These individuals, acting as useful pawns for Iran and its allies, parrot mindless slogans that bear no resemblance to the actual situation in the region. Much of the hate speech mirrors the narrative of the National Socialist Third Reich from the 1930s and 1940s.
While it’s natural to empathize with the Palestinians’ plight, many college activists seem indifferent to the extreme brutality displayed by Hamas on Oct. 7 against Israel, including ruthless hostage-taking. Why aren’t there protests condemning Hamas for starting a war and denouncing the ongoing Arab attacks on Israel since its establishment as a Jewish state in 1948?
Most college students simply want to learn and graduate, but those inciting violence show no concern. With little to no consequences for their actions, they feel empowered to challenge authority and promote chaos.
Do these agitators realize that most Christians and Jews have been driven out of Arab states and Palestinian territories, while Israel has integrated two million Arabs into its society? These Arabs enjoy more rights in Israel than they would in Muslim-majority nations.
A thorough examination of the facts would reveal to unaware students that Hamas and other Iranian proxies deliberately target civilians, whereas the Israeli Defense Forces go to great lengths to minimize civilian casualties through advanced surveillance and precision weaponry.
Conversely, Hamas terrorists use Palestinians as shields during attacks on Israel, demonstrating their disregard for Palestinian lives. The Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by Hamas, frequently distorts or exaggerates Palestinian casualty figures. Additionally, reports indicate that Hamas seizes much of the humanitarian aid meant for Gaza and sells it to Palestinians at a profit.
Are these students interested in understanding why Palestinians struggle to improve their lives? Shouldn’t universities promote critical thinking and investigative methods? If they could detach from their phones, they may gain a better understanding of the world around them.
They would learn that since 1948, Israel has made numerous land-for-peace offers to the Palestinians, all of which have been rejected. Instead of peace, Gaza and parts of the West Bank were given to the Palestinians, leading to increased terror attacks against Israel. Israeli diplomat Abba Eban famously stated that the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. The consistent rejection of a genuine two-state solution indicates that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (Fatah) have no interest in peace.
In fact, the annihilation of Israel is enshrined in their charters. Iran and its allies have never acknowledged the existence of Israel, with the word “Israel” absent from their regional maps. Young Palestinians are indoctrinated from a young age to be anti-Israel and anti-Jewish. The prevalence of disinformation about Israel raises doubts about the possibility of stability in the region.
Regrettably, the International Criminal Court and the United Nations resemble some of our universities. In a perplexing move, they seek to portray genocidal terrorists as victims and label the true victim (Israel) as the aggressor. Are these organizations so out of touch? If so, it signals trouble as their moral compass seems skewed. They find themselves on the wrong side of history, as Israel is a permanent fixture. Furthermore, a BDS campaign against Israel would likely fail, as Israel has the capability to secure alternative markets for its innovative goods and services.
Ultimately, most individuals desire a verifiable ceasefire, but rationality must prevail. For this to occur, Hamas terrorists must disarm, adhere to any peace agreement for mutual security, and legitimate governance must emerge in Gaza and the West Bank.
Only when these conditions are met can development, freedom, peace, and the rule of law truly flourish.
