Vice President Kamala Harris initially stated on October 8 that she would not have handled things differently than President Joe Biden during the current administration. She mentioned that there was nothing that came to mind where she would have diverged from the decisions made so far. Harris highlighted initiatives like capping the cost of insulin for seniors and investing in American industry as areas where she and Biden share common priorities.
However, she later revised her statement by expressing that unlike Biden, she would have a Republican member in her Cabinet. “You asked me, what’s the difference between Joe Biden and me? Well, that will be one of the differences. I’m going to have a Republican in my Cabinet because I don’t feel burdened by letting pride get in the way of a good idea,” she explained.
She had previously mentioned in an August interview on CNN that she would consider having a Republican in her Cabinet for the benefit of the American public, although she did not have a specific individual in mind at the time.
Former President Donald Trump criticized Harris for her initial assertion that she would not have made different decisions than Biden. Trump’s campaign shared a clip of Harris making this statement on X, emphasizing potential implications of continuing Biden’s policies through a Harris presidency.
Senator Tom Cotton also weighed in on the matter, suggesting that a vote for Harris would essentially mean a continuation of Biden’s policies but with even less competent leadership. Harris has shown differences in opinion with Biden on various issues such as taxing unrealized capital gains and addressing border-related matters.
As the election approaches, Harris has been making several media appearances, including on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” to engage with the public and discuss her platform.
