Vice President Kamala Harris is nearing the end of her search for a running mate, with a final decision expected within the next 24 hours. An announcement is likely to follow with a video announcement expected on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the selection process.
While the exact details of the rollout are still being determined, insiders are looking to President Joe Biden’s 2020 video introduction of Harris as a potential model. However, a media leak could disrupt these plans.
The planned rollout comes after a weekend of deliberations. A vetting team, led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, has briefed Harris on the final candidates, which include Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
In addition to these candidates, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker have also been reviewed by the Harris campaign vetting team.
In 2020, Biden introduced Harris with a two-minute video released five days before the Democratic National Convention. The news, however, was leaked the night before the video’s release, which the Biden campaign acknowledged through online postings.
Harris is set to appear with her new running mate at a Philadelphia rally on Tuesday, kicking off a five-day tour of seven battleground states.
