Conducted by Dana Bash, CNN’s chief political correspondent and anchor, the interview will air at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday. Harris and Walz are currently on a bus tour through Georgia, a crucial battleground state in the Electoral College fight. This unscripted exchange marks Harris’ first interview with the media since President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed her as his successor.
In the 37 days since launching her campaign, Harris has been swift in defining herself and her platform, aiming to connect with voters beyond the Democratic Party’s base. Critics, including Senator JD Vance, have chastised Harris for not engaging in more extensive interviews, opting instead for brief interactions with reporters during campaign travels.
Harris has promised to participate in a sit-down interview before the end of August, with the CNN conversation fulfilling that pledge. Her campaign also announced preparations for her first interview with Republican opponent Donald Trump, set to be hosted on ABC from Philadelphia on Sept. 10.
As she navigates one of the shortest major-party political campaigns in modern history, Harris continues to advocate for various issues such as abortion access, gun control, voting rights, immigration reform, and housing affordability. The upcoming interview with Dana Bash will provide Harris with a platform to elaborate on her proposals and solidify her stance as the Democratic Party’s nominee for president.
