Harvey Weinstein, the former film mogul, has been moved from a New York City jail to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of various health issues, including COVID-19 and pneumonia in both lungs, according to his representatives. Weinstein, who is facing rape and sexual assault charges in New York, was transferred from Rikers Island to a locked ward at Bellevue Hospital for treatment of diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid on his heart and lungs. His publicist, Juda Engelmayer, expressed gratitude to the city’s corrections and public hospital systems for ensuring his prompt transfer to the hospital.
This is not Weinstein’s first time at Bellevue, as he had been there previously for legal proceedings related to his rape case. Although his 2020 conviction was overturned, Weinstein remains incarcerated due to a separate 16-year sentence in California for a rape case in Los Angeles in 2022. Weinstein has consistently denied the allegations against him.
During a recent court hearing, Weinstein’s lawyers raised concerns about his health and requested his transfer from jail to the hospital. A retrial for the rape and sexual assault charges in New York is scheduled for November.
