Tragedy struck in Agassiz, B.C. as a family of three, including a baby, lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision with a tractor trailer, according to the RCMP.
The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of July 9 on Lougheed Highway just outside the community. The two adults in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, while the infant was airlifted to the hospital but sadly succumbed to injuries a few hours later.
Authorities have ruled out alcohol or drugs as factors in the accident and are collaborating with a collision reconstruction team to determine the cause of the collision. Fortunately, the driver of the semi-truck emerged unscathed.
RCMP Sgt. Andy Lot, the detachment commander in Agassiz, expressed gratitude to the officers and first responders who responded to the tragic incident, acknowledging their unwavering dedication to serving the victims and their families.
“We are working on supporting all those who were affected from this crash and loss of an entire family. I have engaged the mental health supports for all of those involved,” Sgt. Lot says.
