DeWine called for a special session of the General Assembly in Ohio to ensure that President Joe Biden appears on the state’s ballot for the 2024 election. Despite the DNC’s plan for a virtual convention, Ohio lawmakers are still working on passing legislation to make this happen. The House and Senate have differing bills on adjusting the ballot deadline and banning foreign contributions to state ballot issues. The DNC Chairman, Jaime Harrison, criticized Ohio Republicans for not focusing on the necessary legislation and vowed that President Biden will be on the ballot in all 50 states. Governor DeWine is urging swift action from legislators to pass the necessary measures to include President Biden on the ballot. If a solution is not reached, Ohio would be the only state without President Biden on the ballot.
LaRose has strongly supported President Biden’s efforts to improve ballot access, but he has emphasized the importance of including a provision that prohibits foreign contributions to Ohio ballot issues.
“Whatever the final decision may be, I am optimistic that this issue will be resolved promptly and in the best interest of Ohio voters, allowing us to focus on preparing for the upcoming November election,” he stated in a press release on May 29.
“I also urge legislators not to adjourn this week without making it clear that Ohio’s constitution is not up for sale to wealthy foreign individuals,” he continued.
