A 38-year-old reportedly homeless man was arrested in Culver City on May 5 after allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times in a shopping center parking lot. The suspect, who did not know the victim according to Culver City police, carried out what appeared to be an unprovoked and random attack. The incident took place at the Westfield Culver City parking lot on Slauson Avenue, about 11 miles west of Los Angeles, where police responded to a report of a fight around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday.
The victim, a Hispanic woman, suffered multiple stab wounds and was found bleeding heavily at the scene. She was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition. The suspect fled on foot but was later apprehended hiding in bushes at Cougar Park near Hannum Avenue and Slauson Avenue without any resistance. The knife used in the attack was also recovered at the scene.
The suspect has been booked into city jail and charged with attempted murder, as per the police statement. Authorities are seeking assistance from the public in their investigation, particularly from owners of Tesla vehicles equipped with video monitoring that were present in the area during the attack. Anyone with information or video footage related to the incident is urged to contact the Culver City Police Department at 310-253-6120 or 310-253-6202.
This incident marked the second attack allegedly committed by a homeless individual in Los Angeles County on the same day. A female L.A. Dash bus driver was reportedly assaulted by a homeless woman in South Los Angeles earlier at 1 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the incident at the intersection of Central Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, where the driver was said to have been assaulted by a possibly intoxicated female suspect.
Video footage shared by KTLA 5 captured the suspect physically attacking the bus driver, who in turn defended herself and instructed the suspect to leave the bus, reportedly due to an issue with payment for a bus ticket. The suspect was taken into custody, although her identity has not been disclosed by the authorities. The bus driver received medical attention for her injuries at the scene before being released.
