While some allegations have been dismissed, the committee will continue to investigate specific claims surrounding sexual misconduct, drug use, and improper gifts.
Gaetz has vehemently denied all allegations, which stemmed from a Justice Department investigation into potential misconduct involving underage girls. Despite not being charged in that investigation, Gaetz believes the ongoing probes are politically motivated retaliation for his role in removing former Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the House speakership.
The Ethics Committee’s investigations predate the current Republican House majority and have caused division within the party. Gaetz remains resolute in his defense against the allegations, citing exoneration in previous investigations and accusing the committee of a “Soviet” approach to finding fault.
The Ethics Committee has not commented on the situation, while Gaetz’s spokesperson maintains that his social media statements convey his position on the matter.
