We should talk about what’s coming next.
Trump was reelected by a country reeling from economic difficulties caused by a pandemic and convinced that hurting others would better their situation.

But there is room to organize. A bias toward action is key in this moment before the Trump administration takes power.
There is much that can and must be accomplished in the upcoming weeks. Organizers need to rally the public to pressure the Biden administration and congressional Democrats to expedite judicial appointments that can challenge Trump’s intentions to circumvent checks and balances, allocate unapportioned funds, and block legislation that could enable the weaponization of government against civic society.
Movements must also work to safeguard rights and reinforce equality at all levels – from state and local governments to institutions. People across the nation should urge their governments to protect civil rights, climate initiatives, immigrant families, and reproductive freedom. Corporations should also be encouraged to advocate for labor and human rights.
Students should mobilize to defend their rights on campuses, pushing for protections regardless of immigration status or gender identity. The medical and legal fields should strategize to ensure continued access to gender-affirming care and reproductive health services, as well as to bolster parental rights for same-sex parents.
It is crucial to maintain the victories of past movements for rights and economic justice and to resist the incoming administration’s harmful agenda. Grassroots movements will play a vital role in countering the divisive policies of the Trump administration and working towards a more inclusive and equitable future.
As the flaws of the Trump agenda become evident, there will be opportunities to educate the public and build support for a government that upholds dignity and equality for all. Grassroots organizations must be ready to engage and mobilize people to counter discrimination and work towards a multiracial democracy.
This moment requires collective action and narrative-building to challenge the rhetoric of white supremacy and promote a more just society. Grassroots organizations that can absorb new members and sustain long-term campaigns will be essential in shaping a positive future. We need to unite those who opposed white supremacy in this election, those who are appalled by the violence it has sparked, and those who previously stayed on the sidelines but now understand the urgent need to act.
Together, we can build a strong foundation to ensure fair elections in 2026 and 2028. This movement has the potential to reclaim control of our government, repair the damage done, and guide us towards the goal of establishing a truly diverse and inclusive democracy.
