A hunter in Virginia has pleaded guilty to killing a well-known deer at the Hollywood Cemetery. Jason Walters has been sentenced to 4 months in jail and has had his hunting license revoked for 100 years, with 75 years suspended. Another hunter, Alan Proffitt, also pleaded guilty and received fines and jail time, along with a 5-year hunting license suspension.
The incident gained attention after photos of the deer were posted on Facebook. The deer, known as the “Hollywood Buck,” was a beloved creature in the neighborhood and had distinctive antlers. The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources investigated the illegal killing, and the hunters were charged.
The legendary deer had roamed the cemetery grounds for years and was cherished for its size and beauty. Its death caused outrage among the community, leading to the hunters being brought to justice for their actions.
It wasn’t until the deer reached a certain age that it could reach its full potential and live most of its life in privacy and protection.
It was surprising to Phillips that Walters ended up exposing himself by sharing the photos with Star City Whitetails.
Phillips expressed his hope that Walters getting into trouble would lead to a change in his behavior.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Phillips was thankful that his Facebook page played a crucial role in the man’s apprehension.
Phillips acknowledged the significance of his page and its followers in helping law enforcement catch the individual, as without the incriminating photos posted, he may have never been caught.
