Caribbean islands are in recovery mode after being hit by Hurricane Beryl, while preparations are underway in Texas for the impending storm.
Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula southeast of Cancun on July 5, with forecasts indicating that it will head towards Texas. The National Hurricane Center reported that the storm still had maximum sustained winds of 100 mph, with hurricane and tropical storm warnings in effect for various areas.
The storm surge is expected to raise water levels by four to six feet in some areas, along with dangerous surf and heavy rainfall. Hurricane Beryl is projected to weaken as it crosses land but regain strength in the Gulf of Mexico on its way to Texas.
Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to increase readiness levels and prepare emergency response resources for deployment. The city of Brownsville and SpaceX’s Starbase at Boca Chica are within the storm’s projected path.
Hurricane Beryl has the potential to be the first major storm that SpaceX’s Starbase will face since its construction. The Epoch Times has reached out to SpaceX for details on their storm preparedness plans.
In the Caribbean, Hurricane Beryl caused significant damage and fatalities in several countries, with recovery efforts already underway. Jamaica and the Windward Islands have begun the process of rebuilding and resuming normal activities after the storm passed through.
