An innocent witness was assaulted and robbed by two attackers after he witnessed them attacking another man inside a subway station in Queens, according to police reports.
Jeisson Bedoya, a 35-year-old Queens resident originally from Colombia with some time spent in Miami, saw two strangers assaulting and stabbing another man on the mezzanine level at the 82nd Street-Jackson Heights subway station around 1 a.m. on Monday.
“He didn’t even have the time to call 911,” said the victim’s aunt, Yolanda Bedoya, 57.
“But when he saw those guys stabbing the other one and beating the other guy up, he turned around and left quick down the staircase.”
However, his attempt to escape was unsuccessful as the violent pair noticed Jeisson watching and turned their focus on him, as per his aunt.
“They got him in the staircase, pushing him down the staircase, but he was able to grab the [railing],” Yolanda Bedoya said on behalf of her injured nephew, who speaks only Spanish.
The attackers took Jeisson’s cell phone, but he was able to retrieve it, according to his aunt.
But the ordeal didn’t end there. The attackers followed him down the steps of the station where they assaulted him before fleeing onto the street, as seen in video footage obtained by The Post.
A police car arrived on the scene shortly after, and Jeisson flagged down the officers who pursued the suspects, but they managed to escape, according to his aunt.
The assault left Jeisson with a black eye and back pain from the attackers’ attempt to push him down the steps, but he declined medical assistance.
Jeisson has been residing in Whitestone for a few months, assisting his disabled aunt, she mentioned. He was returning home after meeting a friend when the attack occurred, his aunt added.
“He never expected that something like this would happen to him,” his aunt expressed. “We used to tell him, ‘Jay, do not go out too late. Do not stay out too late. It’s getting very dangerous.’ It’s not like it was before.”
Police released footage on Thursday of the two assailants who are still at large walking on the sidewalk.
