A Romanian court has placed internet personality Andrew Tate under house arrest, along with his brother Tristan, after they were among six people detained in an investigation into human trafficking and sexual exploitation. This decision came after Romania’s anti-organized crime unit, DIICOT, conducted home searches in Ilfov county and Bucharest.
DIICOT had requested a 30-day arrest for the Tate brothers, but the judge opted for Andrew Tate to be under house arrest and Tristan under judiciary control for the same period, as confirmed by their representative Mateea Petrescu. The Tates deny all allegations against them and claim that the accusations lack substantial evidence.
Prior to this incident, Tate and his brother were indicted in mid-2023 for human trafficking, rape, and involvement in a criminal gang for sexual exploitation, which they also denied. They were under a travel ban that restricted them from leaving Romania.
DIICOT announced the detention of six individuals for various crimes, including forming a criminal group, human trafficking, exploitation of minors, sexual offenses, and money laundering. Among the accused, two used the “loverboy” method to coerce 34 victims into producing and selling pornography online, generating significant profits.
One defendant allegedly forced a 17-year-old to create pornography in both Britain and Romania, resulting in profits of $1.5 million. Additionally, this defendant is accused of engaging in sexual activities with a 15-year-old victim.
