Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio has been a top running mate choice for Donald J. Trump, actively campaigning for the position by raising funds, engaging with the media, and showing his support in various ways.
As Mr. Trump’s selection process nears its conclusion, Mr. Vance admitted that he would feel disappointed if he wasn’t chosen. He expressed this sentiment during an interview on Fox News.
The final decision on the running mate is expected to be announced closer to the Republican National Convention next month, with speculation suggesting it could happen as early as this week.
Mr. Vance, along with other contenders like Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, have been invited to join Mr. Trump in Atlanta for a debate with President Biden. This event will give them an opportunity to showcase their qualifications for the vice president position.
During an interview with Fox News, Mr. Vance and his wife discussed their readiness for a potential change in their lives if he were to be selected as the running mate.
Mr. Vance highlighted his priorities, including advocating for manufacturing jobs, school choice, and a strict immigration policy.
Mr. Vance emphasized his personal background, growing up in a poor family and a working-class community, as a unique aspect that sets him apart from typical Republican stereotypes.
He believes that his biography makes it challenging for opponents to attack him on issues related to insensitivity towards Black voters and the poor.
