A class-action settlement agreement against Dollarama has been approved by a Quebec court, amounting to $2.6 million, with claimants potentially receiving Interac e-transfers of up to $10.

Claimants who purchased products subject to eco fees from Dollarama in Quebec between Dec. 11, 2019, and July 4, 2023, or in other Canadian provinces between May 29, 2021, and July 4, 2023, are eligible to make an online claim.
Claimants must declare under penalty of perjury that they bought at least one product subject to eco fees during the specified time frame, without the need for proof of purchase.
Each approved claimant will receive a single e-transfer, regardless of the number of products they purchased from Dollarama with eco fees during the designated periods, as outlined in the agreement.
If the total number of claimants results in payments of less than $3 per individual, the remaining funds will be donated to court-approved charities.
The settlement approval follows the dismissal of an initial $2.5 million settlement proposal by the courts. In April, a judge rejected the previous settlement offer from Dollarama, which involved sending a $15 digital gift card to eligible recipients.
As per the settlement agreement, Dollarama has implemented a new pricing policy for eco-fee products and has denied any wrongdoing or liability.
The company reported a 3.3% growth in store sales compared to the same period in the previous year, along with the opening of 18 new stores.
